Security Code Verification
Fraud Prevention
WorldPay provide a number of anti-fraud measures, both within WorldPay systems and in connecting bank systems. Standard checks are made on each transaction carried out by WorldPay to ensure that the card number is valid, that the card is not recorded as lost or stolen and that there are available funds in the account. We also support address verification (checking cardholder's billing address) and card security code checking, performed by the cardholder's issuing bank. Recently WorldPay introduced support for Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode, allowing a cardholder's identity to be verified at the time of purchase.
WorldAlert
WorldAlert is a sophisticated fraud detection system. Unlike in-house systems, it checks individual transactions against the whole of WorldPay’s global merchant database. WorldAlert stores each transaction after checking to build up historical data patterns. This means that the system continues to get smarter as we constantly develop it based on our experience of reviewing millions of payments.
Fast and simple to use
Each transaction is checked by WorldAlert concurrently with bank authorisation to minimise the total processing time.
TMZ Commercial Services (TMZ) can decide whether to apply any blocks, based on our internal records and our company's experience. For example, we are able to block email addresses and IP addresses if we are suspicious or believe that these are related to fraudulent users.
If the transaction meets our block criteria, it will be declined immediately. The shopper will be advised that the transaction was not processed.
The transaction is also checked against the WorldAlert database and if a fraudulent pattern is detected, it will generate one of the following two responses:
1. Warning, strong chance this may be fraudulent.
2. Caution, inconsistencies with transaction data, take care.
TMZ Commercial Services choice of action
WorldAlert gives TMZ information based on the global anti-fraud experience of one of the world’s leading payment solutions providers. We can then make an informed decision on what action to take next. Usually this means, TMZ will make further contact with you to carry out further checks. This is the only means for ensuring fraudulent activity is not conducted on our website.
Security Code Verification
The Security Code verification service enables the card's security code entered by the shopper to be compared against the card issuer's details.
The card security code is a number printed on the card. The number is not embossed on the card and hence not printed on receipts, making it much harder for anyone other than the cardholder to know what the code is. This will help prevent 'cardholder not present' fraud. A security code is now printed on the vast majority of credit/debit cards.
The format and position of the security code varies across card schemes. Most cards have a three-digit number printed at the end of the card's signature strip. AMEX cards however, have a four digit number on the front of the card. Some card issuers refer to this number as the 'Security Code' and others as 'Card Verification Value'. It may also go by the name of 'CVV2'or 'Card Verification Code' (CVS).
